Highlights of BAC accomplishments in January: The BAC held its bimonthly meeting on Jan. 9. The meeting focused on discussion with MPD Assistant Chief Jeffery Carroll, pictured at left. The BAC also elected new officers. Ward 6 member David Cranor chose not to run for another term as chair. The new leadership includes Chair Rachel Maisler, Chair Pro-tem Tom Bridge, and Secretary-Treasurer Jeff Johnson. Emily Curley was appointed to the Ward 3 seat. Highlights of BAC accomplishments in June: The BAC committees held meetings in June. Legislative Committee chair John Serrao and BAC chair David Cranor discuss committee business at the June 13 meeting DDOT’s Mike Goodno and Facilities Committee chair Susan Balding debrief after the June 23 field ride in the 20th/21st/22nd St. NW protected bike lanes project area The Safety, Education and Enforcement Committee held a June 25 meeting with a representative of the Department of For-Hire Vehicles. Members discussed ways to increase bicyclist safety in relation to drivers of taxis and ride-hailing cars. Additionally, members attended Vision Zero assessments of high-crash intersections. Please join the Bicycle Advisory Council's Facilities Committee (BAC-FAC) on a ride or 'rolling meeting' Saturday July 20, 2013, beginning at 1:30p. The second ride of the season will explore access the Capital Crescent trail within the District. The Capital Crescent trail (CCT) is a popular transportation route for bicyclists, however, access to the trail for District residents is limited. The main access points in the District are in Georgetown beneath the Key Bridge, Norton Street, NW and Fletcher's Boathouse .  Access to the boathouse location is particularly difficult for cyclists and pedestrians because the of a lack of sidewalks or signalization along Canal Road NW. Access at Norton Street is also difficult do to a lack of signage identifying the location of the trail entrance. The BAC-FAC team will be riding the CCT starting from the Georgetown entrance continuing to Norton Street and into Ward 3, stopping along the way to view access points.  We will likel...

Sparks on Florida by Ranpuba, on Flickr The WeMoveDC Ideas that Build workshops offer District residents the opportunity discuss and provide input on the District Department of Transportation's (DDOT) future transportation plan. Like the first event we mentioned last month , DDOT representative will listen to the public and ask questions regarding the District's future transportation options, which should include bicycle facilities. If you are interested in how funding should be allocated for bicycling or facilities should be built, please attend and make your requests known. Four meetings will begin on March 20 and last through March 28 in Wards 3, 6, 7 and 8. Each workshop will discuss similar topics with similar DDOT materials at each location. Of course, the dialogue and questions asked will be different. DCBAC members will attend workshops to discuss bicycling issues as well as concerns that you bring to us.
