Highlights of BAC accomplishments in November: The November bimonthly meeting featured law enforcement discussion with Sgt. Terry Thorne of the MPD. The BAC also submitted official comment on DDOT’s dockless bikeshare policy. This month: December activities BAC committees are meeting as follows: Safety, Education and Enforcement Committee Meeting Thurs., Dec. 13 6:30 p.m. Library Express 1990 K St NW (entrance on 20th Street) Large meeting room The meeting will feature discussion with MPD Assistant Chief Carroll. Facilities Committee Meeting Mon., Dec. 17 6:30 p.m. Library Express 1990 K St NW (entrance on 20th Street) Study Room 2 Agenda TBD. Highlights of BAC accomplishments in October: The Safety, Education and Enforcement Committee held an Oct. 4 field meeting in conjunction with a memorial ceremony for cyclist Thomas Hollowell, struck and killed in September at 12th Street and Constitution Avenue NW. The committee recommended a number of safety improvements to lessen the hazards for bicyclists and pedestrians. A dozen bicyclists attended the Oct. 18 Facilities Committee rolling meeting in the Brookland/Columbia Heights Crosstown Protected Bike Lanes project area. Participants reviewed DDOT design alternatives and rode along designated streets to give feedback about the proposed cycletrack. Facilities Committee participants reviewed the maps at the start of the meeting. The rolling meeting stopped at an intersection to evaluate options. Highlights of BAC accomplishments in September: The Sept. 5 bimonthly meeting featured discussion with DDOT Director Jeff Marootian. A full house of appointees and members of the public questioned Marootian about infrastructure improvements, Vision Zero implementation, and other ways to increase bicyclist safety. BAC chair David Cranor and Ward 4 member Rachel Maisler testified at a Sept. 27 Vision Zero roundtable held by the Council Committee on Transportation and the Environment and the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety. Highlights of BAC accomplishments in August: Committees held their bimonthly meetings to prepare for projects from September through year’s end. The Safety Committee meeting included family members of cyclist Malik Habib, killed while bicycling in July The Legislative Committee met to discuss its agenda for the remainder of 2018 Both committees prepared for a Vision Zero public roundtable the D.C. Council is holding in late September. Taking place on Sept. 27, the roundtable is a joint initiative of the Committee on Transportation and the Environment and the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety. It will be held at the John A. Wilson Building at 1:30 p.m. The BAC will circulate the public notice and additional details as they are released. Highlights of BAC accomplishments in July: The BAC held its bimonthly meeting on July 11. Ward 4 member Rachel Maisler spearheaded memorial rides in honor of the two cyclists killed in late June and early July.
